Title: Come as You are. Artist: Nirvana. Album: Nevermind (originally) also on Unplugged in New york. Tuning: Detune all strings 1/2 a step to match the cd. Note:The unplugged version is the same only it’s played on an acustics. I suggest you listen to the song to get the timings right because I havn’t marked them in. There are various little fills between the chorus/verse but they are not that important (sorry kurt). Intro/verse: |-----------------------------------| |-----------------------------------| Play 4 times for the intro |-----------------------------------| And about ten for the verse. |-----------------------------------| |---------0---0---------2---2---2---| |-0-0-1-2---2---2-2-1-0---0---0---0-| "Come as you are......."
Then go onto this part. Chorus: |-----------------------------------| |-----------------------------------| |-----------------------------------| Play this bit for |-4/6---666666--4/6---66666---------| about 10 times |-4/6---666666--4/6---66666---------| |-2/4---444444--2/4---44444---------| "memoriiiiiiiiiaaaaaa.....! Now play the whole thing through again. In the second verse you only play the riff 5 times. Bridge: After that start playing these two chord about 10 times. |-----------------------------------| |-----------------------------------| |-----------------------------------| |-8/11---11-11-11-11----------------| |-8/11---11-11-11-11----------------| |-6/9----9--9--9--9-----------------| "Well I swear that I don’t have a gun" Now comes the best part of the song. While Krist plays the verse/intro riff on the Bass Kurt Plays the solo. The solo goes a bit like this, it’s fairly basic but it sounds alright |-----------------------------------| |-----------------------------------| |-6~~~~~-6-9-11-6-9-11-6-9-11^14----| Play this 3 or four |-----------------------------------| Times. |-----------------------------------| |-----------------------------------| Then repeat the chorus (mmmmmmeeeeeeeeemmmmmmooooooorrrriiiiiiiiiaaaaaaaa) and after that repeat the bridge. ***************************************************************************** Top Secret - For show offs only. ***************************************************************************** My mate showed me how to play this so blame her if it sounds dodgy. She did this at a concert and it sounded great. There was the lead singer singing and playing the normal riff while she was playing along with the guys voice. here it’s easier to explain in tab. Lyric bit: Verse |-----------------------------------| |--------5--------5------5-7-7_-----| |-6~~~~~------6-6---6-6-------------| |-----------------------------------| |-----------------------------------| |-----------------------------------| Chorus: |---------------|| |-5-------------|| |---4/6--4_2-2-|| |---------------|| |---------------|| |---------------|| Bridge: |----------------------|| |-7--7-7--64----------|| |-------------7-4-7_4--|| |----------------------|| |----------------------|| |----------------------|| ********************************************************************** Tab explanation ********************************************************************** /= slide up = slide down ^= bend to next note shown ~= Let ring _= Depress the trmolo arm till it sounds like the next note **********************************************************************
This was the band's second and last American Top 40 hit, reaching number thirty-two. The single stayed on the charts for 18 weeks. The shift in dynamics, which you can see in these “Come as you are” tabs, is a technique Nirvana used on many of its songs. Cobain once said that the song was about the people of the world and what they are expected to do.
The song has one of Cobain's longest guitar solos. It is a melodic part based on the vocal melody. Kurt complements the melody of the song using his guitar. The solo as described in the “Come as you are” guitar tabs are easy and a good place to start for novice guitar players. Cobain used an Electro-Harmonix Small Clone chorus pedal to give his guitar a "watery" tone during the verses and pre-choruses. The promotional music video for "Come as You Are" was inspired from the cover artwork of Nevermind.
