Playing Notes ------------- As played in the video there is a mix of fingerstyle and strumming but the song can be played to suit the guitarist's ability...there are a few awkward chords to learn which lifts it above the beginner level. One key aspect to keep the feel of the song is to include the bass lines - from the G chord in the line "..holes in the sky" runs up 3rd fret G (6th string) then fifth string open A - 2nd fret B - 3rd fret C. Important is the "You were caught in the crossfire" part...this has a decending bass line on the fourth string. This is a very simple 2nd fret - 1st fret - open string rundown. Play the bass note just before and after you change chord and to give the decending bass line maximum effect. I play the B7 after the B minor chord as a barre at the second fret as I prefer the voicing but the in the video it is played in the standard open beginner version..try both and play whatever suits you. There are also a few different inversions of the C#dim chord that might work well if you find the one shown to be too awkward to play. ..and yes, for the Floyd fans (like myself), he does change the lyrics in some spots and uses the original "layer upon layer" rather than "pile on many more years" but the floyd sung this version live occasionally. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- No Intro - Vocals only for first two lines (You can play the pattern from the 4th line if you prefer to have accompaniment while singing this part) - No tradional song structure i.e. No chorus - Just three verses. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Verse 1: NC Remember when you were young NC You shone like the sun C Em/B Am C/G D Dsus2 D Shine on you cra-zy diamond Em Now there's a look in your eye Eb G Like black holes in the sky C Em/B Am C/G D Dsus2 D Shine on you crazy diamond Em/B You were caught in the crossfire EMaj7/D# Of childhood and stardom Em7/D A Blown on the steel breeze C C#dim Come on you target for faraway laughter G Come on you 🏷Legend Bm You stranger B7 You martyr Em And shine Verse 2: Em You reached for the secret too soon Eb G You cried for the moon C Em/B Am C/G D Dsus2 D D7 Shine on you crazy diamond Em Threatened by shadows at night Eb G Exposed in the light C Em/B Am C/G D Dsus2 D Shine on you crazy diamond Em/B You wore out your welcome Emaj7/D# With random precision Em7/D A you sailed upon the steel breeze C Come on you raver C#dim You seer of visions G Come on you painter Bm You piper B7 You prisoner Em And shine Verse 3: Em Nobody knows where you are Eb G How near or how far C Em/B Am C/G D Dsus2 D Shine on you crazy diamond Em Pile on layer upon layer Eb G I'll be joining you there C Em/B Am C/G D Dsus2 D Shine on you crazy diamond Em/B We'll bask in the shadow Emaj7/D# Of yesterday's triumph Em7/D A We'll sail upon the steel breeze C Come on you boy child C#dim You winner and loser G Come on you miner Bm B7 for truth and delusion Em And shine
