This is entirely my own work. "It's a Laugh" Hall and Oates From the album "Along the Red Ledge" (1978) Intro: G/A A/B Verse: C G/C You must.. C/Bb F/Bb Bb ..But you
A/B You remember me.. A/G G ..boyfriend Chorus: A A+5 F#m/A A? (see chord shapes below) It's a laugh.. Bm7 Funny thing is.. A/C# Everyone thought A/C# D ..Forever.. Guitar Chords Defined: Intro: G/A = x05430 (or simply x00000) A/B = x22222 Verse: The chords I listed above in the verse are more keyboard oriented.. For guitar, this is simpler, and sounds fine: G/C (Cmaj9) (x35433) You must... Bbmaj7 (x13231) But you.. A/B (x22222) You remember.. A/G (3x2220) ..Boy G (320033) -friend.. Chorus: A (x02220) A+5 (x03220) F#m/A (x04220) A? (x05220) Basically, you just keep moving up a half-step on the D string, starting with a regular A Major chord. Same if you're playing it on a piano. Start with an A (A-C#-E), and keep moving the E up a half-step.. Then: Bm7 (x24232) A/C# (x42220) D (xx0232) One more thing: Before the second chorus (at about 2:03 in the recording), there's a cool harmony guitar lick..it's about a second long, so not the easiest thing to try and transcribe, but heres a shot. I wish I had a second guitarist here so I could see if these two parts sound anything close to what I hear in the song. Guitar 1: E---------------------------------------------------------------- B----------------------5---------------------------------------- G---2h4p2--------------------------------------------------- D---------------4p2------------------------------------------- A---------------------------------------------------------------- E---------------------------------------------------------------- Guitar 2: E---------------------------------------------------------------- B---------------------------------------------------------------- G--------------------------6------------------------------------ D---4h5p4---------------------------------------------------- A----------------7p5------------------------------------------- E---------------------------------------------------------------- It's a really fast lick as you'll hear in the song. If you have another guitar player, to try play those in harmony, and let me know if it's close. dontpoll@aol.com
