ON EVERY STREET - Dire Straits
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Tabbed by: woega

Tuning: standard

This is my interpretation of the ENTIRE song, lyrics, chords,
tabs including the INTRO, all RIFFS, and the OUTRO.

I've tried to be as accurate as I can, but I'm open for suggestions :)
The tabs that are directly underneath lyrics are meant to be played with the lyrics,
when there's a blank line then they're played AFTER the words.

Ok now the famous 'On every street' theme appears for the first time.
The piano plays the following chords:
A9

If you want to play them on guitar I would play them like depicted below. Put emphasis
the notes
with a * hear play the melody:

  A9
e|--x---0*--x----x---x---x---x-----x---x---|
B|--x---0---3*---x---x---0*--1*----0*--0---|
G|--2*--0---2----0*--2*--0---0-----0---2*--|
D|--3---0---0----2---3---2---0-----0---2---|
A|--3---2---0----2---3---2---2-----2---0---|
E|--1---3---2----0---1---0---3-----3---x---|

G|----------|
D|----------|
A|--3-3/5-0-|

The second time the main theme is played twice.
The first time is like the first, but without the A9 at the end:

  G
e|--x---0*--x----x---x---x---x-----x---|
B|--x---0---3*---x---x---0*--1*----0*--|
G|--2*--0---2----0*--2*--0---0-----0---|
D|--3---0---0----2---3---2---0-----0---|
A|--3---2---0----2---3---2---2-----2---|
E|--1---3---2----0---1---0---3-----3---|

The second time, as the piano plays the chords, Mark joins in for some accents, but does
play the entire
tune yet. For timing purposes I added the chords above the tabs:

   A9
e|---------------------------------------------------|
B|------3/5-3---------0--------1-----3---------------|
G|--(2)-----------------2--0-----------------pb9ld7b9|
D|---------------------------------------------------|
A|---------------------------------------------------|

B|----------------------6------------------8------------8/10--|
G|---7--------------------------------------------------------|
D|------------------------------------------------------------|
A|------------------------------------------------------------|
E|------------------------------------------------------------|

Ok now the hard part :)
For the rythm guitar, just play the chords we have seen before repeatedly (without the A9):

 G

Now I hope I can explain the lead part well enough because it involves
MK-style finger picking. I'll start with the main tune first, and then add
some tips to ad some flavour.

We'll start with a little practice.
First of all the chords are the same, but played a bit different.
Try to position your fingers as below, but only play the note marked with * to
get familiar with the positions:

  G
e|--1---x---x----0---1---0---x-----x---|
B|--1---5*--3*---0---1---0*--1*----0*--|
G|--2*--4---2----0*--2*--0---0-----0---|
D|--3---5---0----2---3---2---0-----0---|
A|--3---x---0----2---3---2---2-----2---|
E|--1---3---1----0---1---0---3-----3---|

To make things a bit more interessing, we add the bass notes, and the little extra notes
plays.
Again try to position your fingers as indicated, but only play the notes with *:

  G
e|--1---x---x----0---1---0---x-----x---|--1---x---x----0---------1---0---x-----x---|---------|
B|--1---5*--3*---0---1---0*--1*----0*--|--1---5*--3*---0---------1---0*--1*----0*--|--1*-0*--|
G|--2*--4---2----0*--2*--0---0-----0---|--2*--4---2----0*----0*--2*--0---0-----0---|---------|
D|--3---5---0----2---3---2---0-----0---|--3---5---0----2---2*----3---2---0-----0---|---------|
A|--3---x---0----2---3---2---2-----2---|--3---x---0----2---------3---2---2-----2---|---------|
E|--1*--3*--1*---0*--1*--0*--3*----3*--|--1*--3*--1*---0*--------1*--0*--3*----3*--|---------|

This is how I play it. Upper to strings are played with index or middle finger,
bass notes with the thumb. I'll try to be as accurate as I can.

  G
e|-------------------------------------------------------------------------|
B|--------5--------3--------------------------0--------1--------0-------0--|
G|--2---------4--------2----0--------2------------0--------0--------0------|
D|--3--3--------5--------0------2--------3----------2--------0--------0----|
A|--------------------------------2--------3-------------------------------|
E|--1-------3--------2--------0--------1--------0--------3--------3--------|
